Our Approach
Children and Young People
We treat patients under 18 in accordance with GMC guidance (0–18 Years: Guidance for All Doctors) and the Royal College of Surgeons Professional Standards for Cosmetic Surgery:
- Parental or guardian consent is required for all consultations and treatments
- We assess the young person's maturity and capacity to participate in decision-making
- Treatment is only provided where it is in the young person's best interests
- If we judge that the child does not want the procedure, we will not proceed regardless of parental consent
- We do not target marketing activities at children or young people
- We ensure the clinical environment is appropriate to paediatric care
Adults at Risk
We are alert to signs that an adult patient may be vulnerable, including:
- Indicators that a request for cosmetic surgery may not be voluntary
- Signs of psychological vulnerability, body image disturbance, or coercion
- Evidence of domestic abuse, exploitation, or undue influence from a third party
Where concerns are identified, we may defer surgery pending further assessment, including referral for psychological evaluation where appropriate.
PREVENT Duty
In accordance with the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, we have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. We are aware of the PREVENT duty and would report any relevant concerns through the appropriate channels.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
Mr Whitehead holds an enhanced DBS check and is registered on the DBS Update Service, providing continuous criminal record monitoring.
